R400 Rubber Application for Concrete Decks and Under Deck Pavers
- Thoroughly clean the surface with high pressure water cleaning or detergent to remove any film, scale, loose material, oils or foreign material that will inhibit bonding.
- Apply Pro Bond 200 to the entire surface. The sealer is used to ensure adhesion of the R400 to the substrate. The sealer can be sprayed or rolled as a thin mist or coat.
- Apply R400 Rubber Fiber or NP-1 to all cracks and corners.
- At all expansion joints, Polyester Membrane needs to be relieved in whatever manner desired so that the relief or slack is greater than the movement of the expansion joint. Generally a backing rod is used to create slack.
- Apply R400 Rubber to the prepared surface by brush, roller or spray. Apply one complete coat, then apply Polyester Membrane to the surface while the R400 is still wet. Then apply another coat of R400. Allow to dry.
- Apply multiple coats of R400 until the fibers of the Polyester membrane are no longer visible. With all coats and membrane, this should result in 35-40 dry mils thickness. There should be no air pockets under the fabric, with the exception of the expansion joints. The fabric should lay flat on the surface, with no pinholes or protrusions.
- No top coat is needed with R400.
- Deck pavers, indoor outdoor carpeting, a silica sand mixture, deck rock ect. can be laid on top of the R400 Rubber to construct a walking surface. When applying deck pavers, the sand is placed over the R400 Rubber and the pavers are set as they normally would be over concrete.
Installation Notes
- Do not thin or dilute the R400 Rubber for any reason
- Do not allow water to form or dam under the R400/Polyester Membrane installation
- When using the Polyester Membrane, for every 100 to 150 square feet of deck, one 5 gallon bucket of R400 Rubber must be used.
