R400 PRODUCTS

R400 Rubber Waterproofing is a liquid applied system that dries as a thick sheet of rubber. It can be used to waterproof virtually any roof surface, including tile, gravel, foam, metal, shingle, etc…

  1. Surface Preparation: This product must be applied to a clean, dry, and stable surface. It may be necessary to use a pressure cleaner to remove dirt and mildew. Most surfaces will require treatment with Pro Bond 200 sealer, to ensure that the R400 Rubber adheres properly.
  2. Seal cracks & crevices: In order to ensure that the rubber waterproofing dries as a uniform sheet of rubber, it is necessary to seal all tile joints, water-eyes, and seams. This can be done with NP-1, Cement Catalyst/Slurry Mix, or with Joint Fill for shingle roofs.
  3. Polyester Membrane: If you are coating a roof with standing water sections, you will need to install the Polyester Membrane in those areas. This will strengthen the rubber coating to ensure it will not breakdown with constant ponding water.
  4. 1st Coat of Rubber: Roll out the first layer of R400 Rubber. If installing with the Polyester Membrane, you will roll the rubber over the membrane. Apply generously to achieve a uniform first coat. Dry time is between 1-4 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.
  5. 2nd Coat of Rubber: Apply a second and final coat to ensure that the proper thickness is achieved. This is required in order to meet manufacturer standards and qualify for the manufacturers warranty.

No top coat is needed over R400 Rubber. Be sure not to install R400 when the temperature is below 50F. Do not install if rain or freezing is in the forecast. See Product Specs and Pricing.

R400 Non-Skid is a liquid applied rubber specifically designed for coating walkways of all kinds, such as pool decks, catwalks, walk-able roof decks, etc… This product is made with a specialized aggregate that creates a finely granulated surface perfect for ensuring traction without feeling abrasive.

  1. Surface Preparation: This product must be applied to a clean, dry, and stable surface. It may be necessary to use a pressure cleaner to remove dirt and mildew. Apply a thin coat of Pro Bond 200 sealer, to ensure that the Non-Skid adheres properly. This coat will dry quickly.
  2. Seal Joints & Cracks: Any areas with cracks in the substrate and expansion joints need to be sealed before coating. This can be done with NP-1.
  3. Apply 1st Coat: With a brush or roller, apply the first coat of Non-Skid generously and evenly. If the area you are working on needs to be waterproofed, you will apply the Non-Skid over Polyester Membrane.
  4. Apply 2nd Coat: In most cases you will need to apply 2 coats of Non-Skid to achieve the proper mil thickness.

No top coating is needed over the Non-Skid product. See Specs & Pricing.

Supportive Products

Pro Bond 200 is a waterbased surface sealer that aids with R400 adhesion to most substrates.

  1. Surface Preparation: This product must be applied to a clean, dry, and stable surface. It may be necessary to use a pressure cleaner to remove dirt and mildew.
  2. Apply Coat: This sealer is thin and watery, making it easy to apply with a brush, roller or spray. Be sure to apply a thin coat, this sealer should not be applied heavily. The most important thing is to apply the sealer to the entire surface where the coating will be applied.

This product takes 15min-1hour to dry, depending on the temperature and humidity. See Specs & Pricing.

Joint Fill is a compound specifically made for filling and sealing seams on shingle roofs, in preparation for application of a waterproof coating such as R400 Rubber. This product doesn’t require any kind of mixing or prep work. It’s ready to go out of the bucket.

  1. Surface Preparation: This product must be applied to a clean, dry, and stable surface. It may be necessary to use a pressure cleaner to remove dirt and mildew. One thin coat of Pro Bond 200 sealer, must be applied to ensure that the Joint Fill adheres properly.
  2. Apply Coat: Joint Fill can be applied with a brush or roller. It’s best to roll the products upwards and diagonally to the shingle layer, to ensure that the water-eyes and seams are filled. You should apply enough Joint Fill to achieve a uniform coating. Do not over apply to the point where the shingle texture is not visible. You should still be able to see the shingles through the coating.

Joint Fill should dry in 1-2 hours depending on temperature and humidity. See Specs & Pricing.

The Polyester Fabric Membrane adds an extra layer of protection to waterproof coatings. When embedded in the R400 Rubber or Non-Skid coatings, the system can withstand ponding water.

  1. Surface Preparation: This product must be applied to a clean, dry, and stable surface. It may be necessary to use a pressure cleaner to remove dirt and mildew. Apply one thin coat of Pro Bond 200 to the surface, to ensure a strong bond between the surface and the R400 product. This will also make laying down the membrane easier, since it will stick slightly to the sealer.
  2. Lay Down Membrane: Place the membrane at your starting point and roll your R400 product of choice over the starting edge. This will make it so that you can roll out the rest of the membrane without the end blowing or raising up. At the starting end, begin to roll out more R400 down the middle of the membrane, rolling outwards to smooth out any wrinkles.
  3. Overlap: Once your first length of membrane is down, you will need to overlap your membrane layers by 4 inches, to ensure the system remains watertight.

Cement Products

Thermoplastic Cement Catalyst is a plastic additive which has the unique ability to modify cement. It is added to cement with water to modify the cement, making it easier to spread accross roof surfaces for sealing and prepping. When applied correctly, it creates an excellent surface to bond with R400 products.

  1. Surface Preparation: Be sure that the surface you will be applying the cement mixture to, is clean and free of debris, dirt or mildew. Apply one thin coat of Pro Bond 200 to the surface. Once the cement mixture is created, it must be applied quickly. So make sure your surface is prepped before mixing.
  2. Mix Catalyst & Cement: The ratios for mixing Catalyst and cement are as follows. 1gal Catalyst to 2 bags portalnd cement and 2gal water. In a 5 gallon bucket, add 2gal of water. Slowly add 1/2 bag of portland cement while mixing. Add 1/4gal of Catalyst if mixture becomes too thick. Add all cement
  3. Apply to Surface: Start spreading the slurry as soon as mixing is complete. It can be easily spread with brooms or squeegees.
  4. Finish: Brush the surface with a wet sponge to ensure the mixture is even and filling all cracks. This will also help prevent cracks.

Do not apply the Catalyst/Cement slurry mixture to a hot surface. The cement will crack if the surface is too hot. You can cool the surface with water to reach a workable temperature. See Specs & Pricing.
